Albuquerque International Association and Center for International Studies invite you to attend an Alsatian Cuisine Luncheon. Rolf Nitsche will give a talk – “SCHOTT Solar on the Rio Grande: From German Glass to Global Energy” on November 20, 2008, Thursday, 11:30 am – 1:15 pm at La Crepe Michel address: 400 San Felipe St NW # C2. Schott Solar is a German Company that this summer started to build a solar energy plant in Albuquerque. Why did they choose Albuquerque as their plant site? What are they going to do? What will it mean to Albuquerque and especially to people living here? Rolf Nitsche will address these questions in his luncheon talk accompanied by delicious Alsatian cuisine dishes: Choucroute and Tarte Alsacienne. He will also talk about SCHOTT’s history from the founding of the special glass producer in Jena in 1884; to the integration with the Carl-Zeiss Foundation; to a separation of the company caused by Germany’s postwar division; down to the reunion of the West and East German companies following the fall of the Wall. This lavish black tie event will feature sponsored trees, decorated by Albuquerque's top designers, that will be auctioned for the benefit of Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. DECEMBER 6 - JINGLE BELL RUN-WALK FOR ARTHRITIS

 

The Jingle Bell Walk/Run for Arthritis is a unique event, which offers broad community appeal, attracting many participants and spectators of all ages. The event will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Balloon Fiesta Park. There will be a 10K and 5K run. Why We Walk & Run: Imagine the sounds of hundreds of thousands of bells as people throughout the United States run and walk in the Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis.  Across the country, this sound will be heard as people like you tie jingle bells to their shoelaces, don festive costumes and join neighbors in the fight against arthritis.  The Arthritis Foundation is the only nationwide, nonprofit health organization helping people take control of arthritis by leading efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases—the nation’s number one cause of disability. DECEMBER 6 - YULE STRUTTIN' 2008

 

Yule Struttin’ 2008 is the New Mexico Jazz Workshop’s annual holiday fundraiser now in its 16th year and it promises to be the musical event of the season! It's all happening on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm at the Albuquerque Museum located at 2000 Mountain Rd. NW.  So tie a silver ribbon around your finger and strut down the Holiday Lane for an exhilarating evening of American music and fine art, along with an exotic blend of international foods and assorted libations. The Music: Four great New Mexico ensembles will be providing some swinging sounds throughout the museum. Tradiciones, lead by veteran band leader Cesar Bauvallet, pays tribute to (La Epoca de Oro de la Musica Tradicional de Cuba) (The Golden Age of Traditional Cuban Music). The After Five Jazz Quartet's repertoire includes many of the great numbers made famous by past jazz greats. The quartet is comprised of drummer, Douglas Cardwell; guitarist, Dimi DiSanti; bassist, Mark Tatum; with Lisa Lopez on keyboard. Stan Hirsch will deliver some down home solo blues guitar and singing, and The New Mexico Jazz Workshop Youth Honor Jazz Ensemble, lead by jazz trombonist, Ed Ulman, will perform, and anchor a student jam session. The Art: All guests will enjoy the museum's permanent exhibits. Stay tuned for details about their featured Exhibit. The Food: A catered buffet will be served all evening, provided by City Treats Parties. A cash bar, serving a great variety of libations, will be provided by the Cooperage Restaurant. The Silent Auction: This year's silent auction is better than ever featuring a 2009 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic, courtesy of Thunderbird Harley-Davidson, and a new Car courtesy of Don Chalmers Ford. Also being auctioned: ticket packages, jewelry, fine art and unique gifts perfect for holiday giving. The auction opens at 7 pm and closes promptly at 9:30 pm. The group is looking for corporate sponsors to help provide funding for newspapers for classrooms, a monthly letter, calendar of events, e-mail activities and access to on-line materials for teachers.
